Description
Guide rings for fishing rods consist of two main components: frames and inserts. The most durable material currently used for guide rings is silicon carbide, abbreviated as SiC. The frame is defined by its overall horizontal length, height, diameter, the length, and the number of legs. The combination of these characteristics, considering that the frame's shape itself can also vary, results in a vast number of possible combinations. However, not all of them have practical significance.
In the production of inserts, materials such as metal-ceramic with a titanium nitride coating ("Gold Cermet"), silicon carbide (SiC), aluminum oxide, and porcelain are primarily used. In practice, there are eight types of inserts: "Gold Cermet," SiC, "Alconate," "Hardloy," "Hard Ring," "O," "Hard." Insert materials typically differ in four main parameters: hardness (Vickers scale), density, thermal conductivity, and flexural strength. SiC exhibits the highest thermal conductivity. With low thermal conductivity, an insert may heat up at a critical point due to poor heat dissipation from friction. This can lead to damage to the insert and the adhesive holding it to the frame, potentially causing the insert to come loose.
